What Are The Requirements For Student Visa To Canada

1. Receive your letter of acceptance from a Canadian university

A Canadian university must first accept your application before you can apply for a student visa in Canada.

In other words, to be eligible for a student visa you should choose a university that is recognized as a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) – an institution designated by the territorial government that welcomes international students.

StudyPortals’ search engine allows you to find such a program and institution if you are not already sure what specific study programme or university meets your needs.

1) Select the type of degree you want to earn – Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. 2) Type in your field of study (“for example: ‘Canada’. ”), and press the search button above.,

Your student visa may last as long as the conditions outlined in your letter of admission.

If you are granted a conditional offer, your visa will be valid for these pre-requisite courses plus one more year. When this visa expires, you will need to apply for a new one.

2. Be sure you need a student visa

A student visa is not required for everyone. There are agreements between Canada and some countries that exempt students from having to obtain permission.

If you’re unsure whether you’ll need a study permit for your stay in Canada, you can find out by filling out a brief questionnaire.

You can also check the Student Visa link on our Canada nation page and pick your home country to learn if you require a study permit (student visa).

3. Gather all the required documents

Before beginning your online application, gather all the paperwork needed for your permit. The Canadian government states that the following is required:

·         the original or digital copy of the DLI acceptance letter you received

·         identification verification (a current passport or other travel document plus two passport-sized pictures);

·         evidence of finances proving you can sustain yourself during your studies (at least $10,000 CAD per year of study, or sufficient to cover living expenses and tuition fees);

·         A letter of explanation stating your intent to study in Canada and confirming that you are aware of your obligations as a foreign student;

·         if you intend to study in Quebec, a Québec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ)

·         A Custodian Declaration, in the event that you are a minor

·         The acknowledgement of receipt for the $150 CAD study permit payment.

4. Start your application

Once you have all the required paperwork, such as your DLI admission letter, you can begin the online study permit application process. You must:

·         Read the instruction manual to ensure you are familiar with the stages involved in the application process;

·         In order to pay your fees, submit your application, and check your status, create an online account and log in;

·         Provide your complete personal information (name, address, education, and history) on the online forms.

·         Upload the necessary files (identification, proof of finances, acceptance letter, letter of explanation, and others);

·         At the conclusion of the application, pay your fees;

·         Check the status of your application frequently for any modifications or additional requests.

The application process for a Canadian student visa does not always include interviews. However, you might be invited for an interview based on how the officer evaluates your application.\

 If so, a letter with the date, time, and location of the interview will be sent to you.

Your student visa will be valid for the whole term of your studies plus an additional ninety days if your application is accepted.

This additional time can be used to be ready to leave Canada or, if you decide to stay, to file for a visa extension.

5. Provide biometrics and pass medical exam

Should you be applying from outside of Canada and have never provided your biometrics previously, you must obtain your fingerprints and photo at a designated Visa Application Center.

Not only must you pay the $150 CAN research permit price, but you also need to schedule an appointment at an authorized biometric collection center, which costs $85 in total.

You may be released from this obligation in certain circumstances. Simply fill out a brief survey to confirm if providing biometrics is required at the time of application.

In order to complete their application, residents of certain countries will also need to submit the results of a medical examination performed by a panel doctor who has been approved.

6. Prove your of English proficiency

When applying for a study permit in the usual stream, you are not obliged to submit documentation attesting to your proficiency in English.

But, you’ll need to demonstrate your English language competency to be admitted to Canadian universities. This requirement might not apply to you if you have a degree from an English-speaking nation.

You must provide a certificate from an approved language competence test if you are from a non-English speaking nation.

Check the page for your program before selecting the test to take, as minimal scores vary depending on the university and program.
