Admission Status
You must be entering a first year in any of the programs offered at the institution. The award is not available for Pre-Masters and Qualifying year students.

A Completed Application Form
The award is application-based, thus, you must write to make an entry. Keep in mind that besides applying, another criterion here is to have it handed in before the deadline. At the time of writing, the applications for the undergraduate and Graduate divisions for the Spring/Summer 2024, Fall 2024, and Winter 2025, have closed as of February and June 2024. However, the application portal is still open for the Undergraduate Winter 2025 and is due to close on September 25, 2024.

Registration and Course Load Requirements
The University of Winnipeg is particular about the courses. To this end, applicants are required to be registered and must maintain the full-time course load to access the scholarship.

Note that the application for the President’s Scholarship for World Leaderships can only be made via the Awards Office. Also, the application is deemed complete only after the application fees and supporting documentation have been paid and submitted to the admissions office.

Apply for Admission
As the award is exclusive to UWinnipeg, it’s expected that only students in a first-year program must apply. The first step is applying for admission to study any of the programs. The Student ID Number assigned here is what you’ll use when applying for the scholarship.
Complete the PSWL Application Form
Fill out the web application form for the award. You’ll be asked to provide the following information:
- First and last names (make sure these names match what’s on your admission record).
- UWinnipeg Student Number (the 7-digit, valid Student ID Number you received at the point of applying for admission).
- Email address
- The division you’re entering. Choose from Undergraduate, Graduate, English Language Program (ELP), Collegiate, Professional, or Applied Continuing Education (PACE).
- Choose the term you’re starting the program. The options are Spring 2024 (May 2024), Fall 2024 (September 2024), and Winter 2025 (January 2025).
Submit Supporting Documentation
You’ll be asked to submit relevant documents to support your application for the PSWL award. The package includes the following:
- Two Reference Letters from people who can speak to your extra-curricular or volunteer activities. The names of the referees should also be indicated in the designated field on the web form page.
- Resumé / Curriculum Vitae (C.V.), which makes a chronological list of your volunteer/extra-curricular activities, publications, work experience, and awards.
- One 200 to 250-word personal statement, outlining your leadership qualities, academic goals, and extra-curricular or volunteer involvement.
Points to Note when Applying
The following needs to be adhered to when filling out the web form application for the President’s Scholarship for World Leaders:
- All the submitted documents must be in the English language or have English translations if they’re not in the English language.
- Make sure to put a checkmark for the documents uploaded to the application page.
- You’re only allowed to submit one application. Make sure to include all the details and documentation, as incompleted application packages are not reviewed.
- Only Portable Document Files (PDFs) are allowed.
- Applications received after the deadline for the division and start term being applied for will neither be reviewed nor considered.
What’s the Value of the Scholarship?
The value of the President’s Scholarship for World Leaders is $5,000 both for undergraduate and graduate awards. Only 6 offers are open for the undergraduate and 3 for the graduate study programs.
However, the value is reduced by the other divisions. It’s valued at $3,500 for each of the following:
- Professional, Applied Continuing Education (PACE)
- Collegiate
- English Language Program (ELP)
Deadline for Application
At the time of writing, the Spring/Summer 2024 and Fall 2024 terms for the undergraduate programs have ended. Only the Winter 2025 term is open and is due to close on September 15, 2024.
Both the Graduate and Collegiate divisions ended on June 1, 2024. The PACE division for the term starting in Fall 2024 also ended on June 1, 2024, while that of Spring/Summer 2024 ended on March 1, 2024.
The only open calls for applications are:
- ELP (Fall 2024): ending on May 15, 2024 (extended), and Winter 2025 ending on August 1, 2024.
- Undergraduate (Winter 2025): ending on September 15, 2024.
- PACE (Winter 2025): closing on October 1, 2024.
