About the McCall MacBain Scholarship
The McCall MacBain Scholarship is a full graduate scholarship that “provides students with the mentorship, interdisciplinary learning, and global community they need to accelerate their impact on the world.”
This fully-funded scholarship is dedicated towards helping you complete your master’s and professional studies without having a thing to worry about finances.

Categories of Students Accepted
The McCall MacBain Scholarship is exclusive to students who are either pursuing a master’s or second-entry professional undergraduate program at McGill University.
Generally, the scholarship covers over 150 master’s programs and 3 second-entry professional undergraduate programs at the Macdonald and downtown campuses of McGill University.

Master’s Students
Students applying for a master’s program at the institution should ensure it has up to 45 credits (or more) and is administered at either the downtown or Macdonald campuses of McGill University.
The following are the supported master’s degrees:
- MISt (Information Studies)
- MM (Management Analytics, Finance, Retail)
- MMus (Music)
- MPP (Public Policy)
- MA (Arts)
- MArch (Architecture)
- MATL (Arts in Teaching and Learning)
- MEd (Education), MEng (Engineering)
- MBA (Business Administration)
- MSc (Science)
- MScAPT (Science, Applied in Physical Therapy)
- MScA (Science, Applied)
- MScAOT (Science, Applied in Occupational Therapy)
- MUP (Urban Planning)
- LLM (Law)
- MSW (Social Work)
- STM (Sacred Theology).
Professional Undergraduate Programs
For the second-entry professional undergraduate degrees, the following are supported:
- MDCM (Medicine)
- BCL/JD (Law) and;
- DMD (Dentistry)
Note: other than the aforementioned programs, the scope of the McCall MacBain Scholarship doesn’t extend to the following:
- Joint degree programs
- Graduate certificates
- Executive master’s programs, including IMHL and EMBA
- PhDs
Exceptions: the major exception is for the qualifying-year students who may be allowed to apply for the award at the start of their qualifying year for their upcoming master’s degree at McGill University.
Coverage of the Scholarship
The McCall MacBain Scholarship primarily covers the tuition and fees for the full normal duration of the master’s or undergraduate professional program. Hence, it’s a fully-funded scholarship.
The following are also a part of the package:
- A one-time relocation grant for moving to Montreal, Canada.
- A stipend of $2,000 monthy is given to the students to be part of their living expenses during the academic terms of their studies.
- There is also an opening for summer experiences, but this is exclusive to scholars who are not pursuing an academic term during the summer. In this case, they’re allocated up to $5,000.
More Details about the Funding
For the 2025 Cohort, a total of 130 scholarships and awards are available. These are broken into 30 McCall MacBain Scholarships and 100 finalist and regional awards. These are offered to the candidates who distinguish themselves during the interview process.
The breakdown for the distribution is given below:
Canadian Applicants
Would-be McCall MacBain Scholars who are Canadians, refugees or Permanent Residents (PRs) will receive 20 McCall MacBain Scholarships, 30 Regional Awards of $5,000 (which is tenable at any public university in Canada) and 30 Finalist Awards worth $10,000.
International Applicants
For applicants from any other country, including the United States and Nigeria, they’re billed to receive an allocation of:
- 15 Regional Awards of $10,000 (tenable at any public university in Canada).
- 10 McCall MacBain Scholarships
- 25 Finalist Awards of $20,000.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the McCall MacBain Scholarship, one must be a Canadian, a PR in the country, a refugee or a citizen or national of any other country other than Canada.

Language Requirements
As most of the programs have the English language as the medium of instruction, applicants, especially those outside Canada, are required to meet the minimum degree and language requirements for the McGill University master’s program admission.
Earned a Bachelor’s Degree
Applicants must have also earned their first Bachelor’s degree. The following conditions suffice:
- You must have earned your first Bachelor’s degree in the last five years, between January 2019 or later.
- You must have earned your first Bachelor’s degree more than five years ago and be either 30 years of age or younger in 2024.
- You are a current student (of McGill University) and on track to earn your first Bachelor’s degree by August 2025.
Note: you must meet one of the aforementioned criteria.
Information about the Application Deadline
When the window for application closes is very important. For the 2025 Cohort, the deadline differs by nationality. While students and graduates of universities in Canada (including Canadians studying abroad) and the United States are allowed to apply until September 25, 2024, at 4 PM Eastern Time; international students have until August 21, 2024, at 4 PM Eastern Time to apply for the McCall MacBain Scholarship.
Generally, the following should serve as a guide to applying for the award:
- Make sure to submit your application between the 12 and 15-month deadline before the start of your program at McGill University.
- You can apply for the scholarship before applying to a graduate program at McGill University, but make sure to apply to McGill by the program’s deadline or by December of the year in view.
